2009 Grant Application Info
The Wayland Public Schools Foundation enriches the education of Wayland's children by funding grants for innovative projects and creative units of study not covered by the regular school budget. Last year, the Foundation awarded 35 grants totaling $140,000. The size and types of grants were varied, with some benefiting an entire grade or school, yet others benefited a particular classroom or group of students. Please refer to the list of grants for the last five years to see the breadth and diversity of the grants which have been awarded. We encourage you to think about ways in which the Foundation can help you enrich your classroom and your school, meet curriculum goals and help children learn.

Guidelines
1. Applications for grants from the Wayland Public Schools Foundation are due October 1. Occasionally the committee is presented with a proposal for funding that could not be anticipated in the fall. If you have such a situation, please feel free to contact Laurene Sperling (laurenesperling@hotmail.com) or Wendy Simches (msimches@aol.com).
2. Applications may be filled out on-line, or the form can be downloaded and the information typed or handwritten on the application form. The proposal then needs to go to the Superintendent's office for signing, and they pass it along to the Foundation Grant Committee. Grant proposals do not need to be long but they must provide all of the requested information.
3. It is extremely helpful to the committee reviewing the applications if you can be as specific as possible in showing:
- a. how the funds will be spent
- b. when the proposed program will take place
- c. which classes/grades will benefit from the program
- d. how the program is related to the curriculum
- e. if the program is a pilot program, how it can be developed if it is successful
For example, if you will be purchasing supplies as part of the proposal, specify
which supplies and the cost, including shipping. Attach information about proposed
speakers and any documentation which would be helpful.
4. The Foundation's policy does not allow paying for substitute teachers, travel expenses, or hotel expenses. Accordingly, the application should specify how these costs will be covered if applicable.
5. We hope that the Foundation will give educators in Wayland a chance to think out of the box and explore creative ways to work with students.
6. If you have any questions about the application process or how to present your particular proposal, please contact Laurene Sperling at laurenesperling@hotmail.com or Wendy Simches at msimches@aol.com
