The WPSF Spelling Bee raises awareness of, and funds for, the Wayland Public Schools Foundation, which funds innovative, curriculum-based, teacher-generated grants. The Bee is anticipated by elementary school students and their parents each spring. It is a lot of fun for everyone, and is a great way to bring together the students from all three elementary schools.
The three elementary school principals, several members of the Central School Administration, and members of the School Committee serve as judges and announcers, as do other members of the school and town communities.
The Spelling Bee is held at the Wayland High School for children in grades 2-5. The spellers will be teams of three children. Each child who participates receives a tee shirt at registration and a goodie bag at the end of his or her round. Winning teams also receive a prize.
